What is a psychomotor therapist (PMT) ?

This therapeutic support was born in 1850, and was recognized in 1974 with the creation of a state diploma, issued after three years of study.

Psychomotor therapy allows us to consider the patient as a whole, including:

- the emotional sphere

- the cognitive sphere

- the motor sphere

As a result, care is provided with the patient as a whole, linking these three points. This allows us to support the patient in what they may experience, feel, and want to express.

Any start of care is made by carrying out an assessment.

Some examples

Each session is created for the patient, and depend of the psychomotor report. The session are adapted to the speed of the patient ; it will have differents ways to achieved a well-being.

01

Eating disorder

The work focuses on self-awareness. Through yoga , relaxation , and graphic representations we come to strengthen body awareness . I also use the anatomical study of the body to also build organic awareness . Times for discussion are often taken during the sessions, to take stock of daily life, emotional state and sometimes set up tools for the home.

The treatment is generally carried out with one session per week for the first few months (or every other week if there are other follow-ups in progress), then depending on the progress we space them out to every 15 days, then every month, then as needed.

02

Learning difficulties or disabilities

The course of a session generally consists of a time at the desk, where we work with games or other activities. Then we go to the motor skills room to move. Different themes are covered according to the need: organization, temporality, spatiality, visual construction, body awareness, coordination... The support is generally carried out over the school year, it is often important to let the child breathe during their holidays.

03

Burn-out, or anxiety

A time for discussion is taken at the beginning of the session, followed by a moment of writting expression, or drawing ; a time of relaxation, returning to oneself, meditation, breathing work is also part of the session. We can explore some different body layers (feelings of the body's constituents, physical expression, etc.). Sometimes there is the implementation of certain tools or exercises to do between sessions.
